I am keeping the footprint of my YANGMEI propagation and cultivation activities in USA.
Early days: I grew up in a "Chinese Peasant" family with more than one hundred Dongkui Yangmei trees. I grew up with Yangmei, helped my parents manage and harvest Yangmei from a kid. Then I graduated in Horticulture with the highest degree, was a professor in China.
2012: I launched a commercial tissue culture lab with some friends in Zhejiang, China, my hometown, to do ornamental plants and fruits tissue culture. I leaded the R&D. Following are some photos of my former lab and plants we propagated!
2016-2017: Developed Yangmei (Myrica rubra) micropropagation protocol in Zhejiang lab.
2018: For family reason, moved to Texas, research on Yangmei (Myrica rubra) seed germination, grafting and tissue culture.
2021: Moved to Georgia, visited UGA's research nursery, found YANGMEI grow here (USDA zone 8a) pretty well, decided to grow some at my own garden.
2023: A great chance to get a 1972's abandoned clean bench for free, spend some money to refurbish it (though it is a little noisy, but works), restart my deep love tissue culture at home in USA. To save money, use free newspaper for wrapping, set the shelf at window to use sunlight in the daytime.
2023: Restart Yangmei tissue culture again in USA!

Well rooted in 2025 and planted out!
2024. 11 Planted rooted shoots in 6-cell-tray with potting mix in my sunroom, use anything I can find as containers to keep humidity to save cost.
2025. first week of Februray, most of them grow very well! Repot them into 4 inch pots! Build a plastic hoop house to keep warm.
2025. April. Repot to 1 gallon nursery pots and 2 gallon fabric pots.
2025. 5.1 Planted some plants into natural soil in metro Atlanta area, Georgia, to test their growth on local soil.
